How to insert a hyperlink in a PDF
- Open the PDF; the Link tool is selected.
- Drag a box over the text or image that should be clickable.
- Type the address (https://… or an email) and press Add link. The box shows the address while you edit.
- Download PDF and click the area in your reader to test it.
Making links people notice
A link in a PDF is an invisible hot-spot, so readers only find it if the page suggests it. Underline the words with Shapes → Line in blue, or add a short text label such as "Book online →" and link that. On a flyer, a QR code image with the same link covers people who print it.
Questions people ask
How do I add a hyperlink to a PDF?
Choose the Link tool, drag a box over the words that should be clickable, type the web address and press Add link. Download the PDF and the area opens that address when clicked in any PDF reader.
Can I link to an email address?
Yes. Type the address, for example hello@example.com, and it is saved as a mailto: link that opens the reader's email app.
Why can't I see the link in the downloaded file?
PDF links are invisible clickable areas; the text under them looks unchanged. To make a link obvious, underline the words with the Shapes tool (Line) or colour them with a highlight before linking.
Do links work in every PDF reader?
Link annotations are part of the PDF standard and work in Acrobat, Preview, Chrome, Edge, Firefox and mobile readers. Some readers ask for confirmation before opening a website.
